Crawdad Camp

Crawdad Camp 2008
July 21 - 26
West Clear Creek, Coconino National Forest, Arizona

West Clear Creek is in a wilderness area. The campsite is on the rim above the canyon. We will hike about 0.8 mile to the stream to remove crayfish each day.

This is a pristine area with large fir trees in the canyon. Unfortunately, the stream is crawling with crayfish.

If you are interested in participating, and/or have questions, follow the Contact link and send a message. Registration is limited to 16 people.

Crawdad Camps are designed to put faith into action. Campers live in tents and eat in an open-air kitchen. We practice "leave no trace" to have minimum impact on the natural environment. This is a multi-generational camp and campers from 2 (with parents) to 88 years old have participated
Typical days begin with devotions and breakfast. As campers finish breakfast, they pack a lunch and prepare to hike to the stream for the day. Everyone helps out in the kitchen and with the cooking.

Crayfish are caught with dipnets or traps, The traps are left overnight and are emptied in the morning. Data is recorded for all crayfish caught. With the density of crayfish in West Clear Creek, we might catch several thousand crayfish each day. You can eat all the crayfish you want.
Lunch is at some natural picnic ground near the stream. Several days we will be joined by biolologists from a variety of state and federal agencies. They will share their knowledge of the plants, birds and/or fish,
Each day includes time for Bible study, singing, prayer, and learning how to care for creation.
